Tucker
Achievements:
Tucker's sire and dam both work.
He has worked goats, pigs and ducks and is learning to work sheep. He is very helpful catching chickens by blocking off their escape and driving them toward me so I can catch them. He is very gentle with poultry.
Tucker is always ready to work and is most proficient at gathering and keeping the stock to me. He naturally works opposite my position when we are moving animals. He follows my cue at feeding times and if I shoo the animals away he keeps them off me. He is good at preventing escapes through open gates or barn doors and will independently return escaped animals to their proper area.
Tucker is aggressive in controlling stubborn livestock and in dealing with any animal that lowers their head at him. I have never seen him heel, but he will readily grip the ears or the side of the neck We are working on softening this trait.
He will stay with a job and work hard at returning stubborn escapees, but has a hard time getting them out of corners. He will take direction, but shuts down if micro managed, although he doesn't slink off and has never run off and left me. He is very tuned into my body language and I have to be careful not to show discouragement because he thinks that he's done something wrong.
Tucker likes to work close, which has worked fine with pigs and our goats, but has posed problems with the ducks and sheep. He needs a lot of direction to stay further out. As a younger dog, he barked a lot when he worked but works silently now unless challenged by an animal.
Baby animals are well protected and safe with Tucker. He often times has a hard time moving a group of them because he won't use his power.
Tucker herds because he loves to control and move the stock.
Tucker is an excellent and fearsome watchdog yet warms up to strangers when we let him know it's okay.
