All is very very good. In fact, this has been a very positive puppy and people experience! We find mostly good stuff to praise . and a firm quick "No" receives an immediate understanding and correctionl.
I know you already know this about your Springers~~ He is exceptionally beautiful, sweet and intelligent! Very well bred! He is the companion that we were hoping for!

Hi Laura,
Just wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas. Chapin and Tucker are both
doing fine. Chapin is still the sweetest dog I can imagine. He loves tea
towels and loves to shake 'm up. We celebrated Christmas with our
children (in from all over the place) I shared some of the new vocabulary
you sent to me and we had so much fun incorperating it into out Christmas
conversation.
Cannot tell you how lovely a dog Chapin is. He is so so loving. He puts
one foot out all the time like he wants you to shake, but we didn't teach
him that. It must be a Loki Aurin trait. He is a lover, that's for sure.
Some day in the distant distant future, when we loose Tucker, I would like
to have a BW female from either Jewell or Loki and Aurin. I have never
seen such a loving dog. He is also completely trustworthy with children
( not Tucker's best trait). His personality is more like a lab than a
modern Springer. You have the breeder's secret for sure.
Thanks, Merry!!
Lauren

Dear Laura,
Thank you for your Christmas wishes, and I would like to report that our Springer, Bentley, is the love of our lives here in Elmira. He is, at 10 months, fully grown, I hope. He is beautifully proportioned and has a very gorgeous coat with perfect markings. His first experience with the snowballs was very funny, and he loved burrowing in it too. He is pretty big, weighing in at about 55 pounds, and I do have to use a hook collar for our 2 or 3 mile early morning walks, as I have 70 year old shoulders which need some care. He is a great jumper and springer, as he lives up to his breed, and nothing makes him happier than to go off leash and up on our hillside meadows for a quick run. He is moderately well-trained, but needs to work on jumping on people and the kitchen cupboards. We took him to puppy socializing classes when he was about 4 months old, and he loved all the other pups. As a result, he is a very outgoing and pleasant dog with other animals in the park where we walk him about three times a week.
Thank you for this wonderful pet!
Cordially,
Roberta M. Hoffman

Hi Laura,
And a merry Christmas to you too!
Thanks for the pic of your latest litter.
I’m reciprocating by attaching a very recent picture of our Madison, who is now 20 months old, an incredible dog, and a real member of our family. We all love her dearly, and she returns the love in spades. She appears in the pic with son Drew, who will be 12 in a few weeks.
Would you mind forwarding this to the Cottles? I seem to have lost their email address.
Thanks
Bruce

Hi Laura -
I just wanted to write to you and say thank you. I tried last week, but your e-mail was full. You must have still been on vacation! I hope you had a good vacation.
Our puppy has adjusted well. His name is Jesse. He's such a good boy! He was house trained within the first 24 hours. He has his signals to tell us that he has to go out. He is an amazingly smart dog. He is 10 weeks old (almost 11!) and can sit on command now, comes when called, and doesn't go far from you in the yard. In public he is on a leash, but at home he stays in the yard with no leash, and doesn't go far from us. He's great!
We are going through the typical puppy biting. He isn't bad about chewing things he's not supposed to. He has his toys. But he does like to bite at your pant lets, toes, fingers, sleeves, etc. I can't wait until we are past that stage! But at least he's not chewing on furniture or anything.
We had taken him to my son's baseball game, and a person from the other team was admiring the puppy and the temperament of the puppy. They have been looking for puppies and asked for your name and number and website.... I gave it to them, so you may get a call! I hope you don't mind.
Thank you again for a wonderful puppy! I will keep you posted as he grows.
I have attached a couple of pictures! The family just loves him!!!
Can I ask you a favor?? I know we were late the day we picked up the puppy, but my kids wanted a nice picture of our puppy's mom and dad. Can you e-mail me a copy of the mom (Angel) and his dad?
That would be great and the kids would love it!!!!
Thanks again, and we'll keep in touch.

Hi Laura -
I got your e-mail and realized I haven't sent you update pictures of Jesse in about 4 months!!! He's grown quite a bit. He is the BEST dog ever! He's very smart and very handsome. We get compliments all the time on what a good looking dog he is. Actually someone recently told me he was a beautiful dog and asked me if he was a show dog.
He went to puppy kindergarten, and Family Dog II. He never really chewed anything.... I think we are past the teething stage. He can do all kinds of tricks.... the normal, come, sit, lay down, stay, give your paw and then he can do thing like wave, high five, and catch treats in the air. He stays in the back yard and he comes when you call him. He can be very vocal at times. He was totally house trained the first week we got him - I think he only had 4 or 5 accidents in the house and that was it. We spent a lot of time with him over the summer, took him out all the time, and he did great!
He's funny.... he likes to have his picture taken. When he sees the camera and I call his name he will stop and pose for the picture! He's very photogenic! :-) And he loves the snow!
He was neutered in October.
Our family loves our dog. Thank you again, and we will keep in touch and send you pictures as he grows!
Thanks again.

Laura,
As we near Lincoln's 2nd birthday, I thought I would drop you a note. He's about 65 pounds and one of the most loving and beautiful Springers we've ever known. He's been a joy to have in our lives and I can't imagine this time without him. He has a "trademark" smile that all who know him just can't get enough of and that wag and wiggle is just the most precious thing I've ever seen!! He is extremely smart and at daycare he is the dog all the puppies spend their first day with. He has so much patience and is truly an old soul for a 2 year old.
He looks very much like Aurin in the chew toy photo and that look says it all. It says "how can you resist me". We are so lucky to have been chosen by Lincoln and I thank you for entrusting us with his care.
Regards,
Kate and Rick Lampron

Hi Laura,
Thanks for the note and happy new year to you too. Looks like you have quite a litter of pups ready to go!
We finally got our first digital camera for Christmas so I'd thought I'd fill you in on Spencer and send some pics along. He's weighing in just shy of 55 pounds and he would eat himself to death if he could so thankfully, he gets plenty of exercise or who knows what he'd weigh.
I feel like a doting mom. I think every pic is cute, so it was VERY hard for me to narrow it down to these. I tried to pick ones that reflected his personality. He keeps us laughing everyday and it's hard to stay mad at him for very long. You will notice pics where he is on the furniture. That was a major no-no, but I lost that battle and opted for sheets to cover stuff up instead. He LOVES the water and the muddier the better. I don't know what he'll do when winter finally shows up and the lakes freeze.
I never had a dog that sleeps on his back with his legs in the air lilke this one. When he was small enough he used to sleep that way half under the couch, but in no time at all he couldn't fit under there and other places so he gets frustrated when a toy ends up under something and he can't get it.
Oh, he also thinks he has a magic paw that opens doors, but also car windows and any other thing he wants to get into. It's pretty funny to watch, especially when something does not open.
We go hiking and biking with him alot. This past weekend we were in VT. Since there was no snow, we hiked and discovered our curious dog does have some fear of something. He tried to follow Bill up to the top of a fire tower, but thankfully got nervous after one flight of open stairs and came back down. Then, we encountered a suspension bridge. He immediately dropped to the ground and would not go a step further over that bridge. It was pretty funny.
People constantly compliment how gorgeous he looks, how soft his coat is (no doubt because of the number of baths he gets weekly to get rid of that mud!) and what a fantastic disposition he has. He is quite the people person and wants to greet everyone we meet, but sometimes his exuberance is a bit to be desired by some people, but then, I'll bet they are probably cat people. :))))

Laura,
I hope all is going well. Our household is doing just tremendous. What joy these two liitlle bundles bring to all the members of our household. Everyone wants pictures and updates. I never thought it would be so much fun and enjoyment. They sleep almost through the night but its a constant meal. They really eat but their unbounding energy burns it up almost instantly. We really made the right decision. How are the other puppies doing? Are sales going well? I'm attachiong a few pictures of our gang......

Hi Laura,
Thank you for sending a picture of "Oz Man". Happy to hear he is enjoying
his retirement. "Buddy" does look alot like his papa. He weighs about 62
lbs., all muscle . When he is walking or running, his confirmation is
perfect. He spends his summers on a lake in Maine and while home here he
gets long walks in the woods every day. When I told you what a wanted in a
dog; a ball player, hiking buddy, lap dog, great with grandkids, and my
other springer you said he was the one....you do know your dogs.
Thank you.

Update
Ellie is still meeting people and is absolutely crazy about everyone she meets. Getting better on the house breaking. very good on pee, needs development on poop yet. Meets me at the door when I come home and sees me off in the morning. Already, Suzanne and I would feel a real loss without her. She brought a very unique dimension to our home and relationship. I am so glad we contacted you ---- very special puppy from a very special kennel. You can definitely feel free to give us as a reference to anyone --- Graystone Kennel and Laura Davenport are the best of the best..

Dear Laura,
We are wondering when do we convert Isabella's food to dry vs wet?
Also, I wanted to tell you that we are very very impressed with the way in which you run your dog breeding program. Mike and I have had dogs all of our lives including our married life and we have seen SEVERAL breeders. Many of them are "scary" looking the way they raise their dogs and pups. Most of them also never have the male on premises. We were so happy to see the care you give to your adult dogs, providing them with a warm, comfortable environment in which to live. Your son is so caring and knowledgeable and shows a great deal of love to the dogs as well. He is a great help to you, I can see. You BOTH really made us both feel so good about making the trip and nothing about the experience was disappointing. Thank you for loving and caring for your animals the way you do and thank your son Josh as well!

HI Laura,
Well, we are all adjusting well. Andy has brought much joy to our lives but lots of work!
He is just beautiful, which we are reminded of frequently by all that meet him. He has lots of energy and loves to bite.....EVERYTHING! I am sure that doesn't surprise you! But he is listening better and chewing less (a little bit) everyday. He had his third puppy class. He is the youngest and best in the class and I am not just saying that. He can sit, stand, lie down, stay for about 10 seconds and come when called. He is even working on heeling. We are amazed at his quick ability to learn. We have enclosed a few of the 100 pictures we have taken. He had his first vet visit and got his shots. He goes again next week for more shots. The vet said he was very healthy.

Hi Laura,
The funny number game was a riot. I loved it.
While i have you, I want you to know how fabulous Chapin is. He has the
absolute best personality of any dog I have ever known. He is so gentle
and
loving. He actually reminds me of a lab more than a Springer. The other
day,
my husband had given him a t-bone bone which he had saved from our dinner
out
the night before. I didn't know what it was, so I opened his mouth and
stuck
my hand in there to figure out what junk he had. When I found that piece
of t-
bone i was astonished he hadn't resisted at all. My other Springer would
have
amputated my arm.
He weighs 50 lbs. He is beautiful. He is a great swimmer. He is so smart.
He
still tests my every move and questions every decision I make, but its
only
because he is so smart.
As I have said before, you must be commended for keeping Springers sane.
Thanks. Some day I want another one of your dogs.
I would only say that his eyes are not as pretty as my bitchy Springer and
he
has sort of short legs for his length and the biggest wiggle in the middle
when
he walks you've ever seen. I wonder if he is done growing.
Anyway, this is a Springer you could trust with anybody anywhere. He is
truely
the finest gentle personality I have ever had.
Thanks so much.
I have had Springers I wouldn't leave alone with a Sumo Wrestler; this one
is
great.
LAuren Lauren

Thank you so much for a wonderful time.
All the way home my neice could not stop talking about the puppies. It was great to see first hand the love and attention you provide all of these animals. I still do not see where you find the time and energy to handle all of these pups...much less how you keep track of who belongs to who!...it is obvious that you love your dogs..each and everyone of them is a true beauty. Again, I just wanted to thank you and I can not wait for my baby to get bigger!
I will give you a call in a couple of weeks when I am in Saratoga and see if we can work out a time for me to visit my dog. In the meantime I have had four people offer to taek care of him for me if I need to go away....and they have not even seen him yet!

Hi Laura,
How are you doing? Any new puppies this spring/summer? Maya is doing great. My husband reminded me the other day that I told myself I wouldn't get as attached to this dog as I was to our last Springer....well, it's too late for that....I am so crazy about Maya! She really is a great dog. The woman who works at doggie daycare is also a breeder (rottweilers) and trainer and she works with Maya alot because she likes her. She actually wants to put her in an obedience competition because she is so smart.
Hope all is well with you and your family. Take care.

Happy Holidays Laura!
June is a wonderful addition to our family.
We
just love her! The feeling is mutual because when we walk in the door
or wake up in the morning she gets so excited that she smiles! We get
so many compliments on how beautiful she is. She is doing very well.
Alice and I try to get the sisters together every other week or so.
Both dogs are 30 - 32 lbs.! It is amazing how they grow! Have a
wonderful holiday season!
