Achievements:
Spencer was a one of kind Mastiff, stud, friend and sweetheart. He was put down in 1996 after battling colon cancer. He sired many great daughter's(5 of which I owned)and are now, the grandmother's of some of my best dogs/kids. He maybe gone but he is far from Forgotten and buried here on the place next to his best girlfriend and my baby girl, Bernadette Tigress(killed before her time by a Vet. that thought he knew more about her than her mother did) but , he didn't.
Spencer was Championed when I purchased him and up in age, so I only got to breed him once before he lost his fight with cancer. He spent the last few years of his life here, loved and babied like he should have treated his entire life, but sadly wasn't. He never met a stranger and was the most vocal mastiff I've ever lived with. He actually could talk more than my, mouth of the south daughter, Tiffany, and that is saying a mouth full. lol
Spencer even at the age of 11 could keep up with my puppies and never had a problem one with his hips, elbows or feet, even in advanced age. He was a very easy keeper and just lived to make you happy. His progeny is the main foundation of my lines today since I had 5 of his best daughters. He wasn't a huge, massive male by any means but he stood 34"tall and was very correct, straight and fluid..His grand-children and great-grand-children are going into the show ring this year and after all the years of work, it's now time to let them have at the show world.
I would like to go into a little bit of detail on just what great attributes he is producing and throwing in my lines today(09). Spencer had a really nice head, pigmentation and tight, cat like feet, in addition to that wonderful strong topline and high tail set..He wasn't a wet dog and had a very clean head with wrinkles that only showed when at attention..He had great, heavy bone and one of the nicest coats I've ever felt or ran my hands through. His chest is deep, well rounded and he has that perfect rectangular body so much in demand and that is really coming through in his offspring. His lines and the lines from my other studs are crossing just like they should(as the breeders in their backgrounds knew exactly how to bring that all forward)...
So many today are just breeding to be breeding, with little or no regard to their genetics in their lines...Just because the sire or dam is a Champion, doesn't mean that dog is of great lineage...especially now days with all the money being tucked into judges pockets and I don't mean to imply that all of them are like this, they are not..just the few under the control of the elitest out there. They are alive and well, but if enough of us band together and take back the showring by showing our babies and standing up to those that are only in it for the pride of the eye and the moment of glory, the few will wake up and see, some of us are very serious in our desire to better the breed and get it back where it should have always stayed. I believe that with all my heart and soul so I will sit right here and continue to do all I can(with GOD'S help ) to see that dream become a reality.
It's time to get back out there and show the world in general, what can be accomplished when you have your priorities in line and are doing what you were put here to do. Without sounding like I'm a holy roller, CHRIST really is my center and my inspiration...which is why I am striving for perfection in all that I do with these babies.
Some that have never done the time or paid the dues of getting into the genetics of the breed, find it hard to swallow or understand when it comes to line breeding, but there is no other way to produce the hardy, solid Mastiffs of Old...You have to Know what is behind your lines and that can't be done by crossing CH.to CH. without any plan, just because they were Champions...They have to related, solid bloodlines to bring forward and build upon, as your pedigree's will show(back in the background of all the great Mastiffs) somewhere before it was lost, due to the breeders out there today, that only want CH.on the pedigree instead of lines to carry on what the great breeders of the past had started.
I'm not concerned with CH. on my pedigree's, unless it was worked hard for and attained by right and most importantly, unless it is a culmination of all the work done before my foot print was left. You will see Champions somewhere in most all pedigree's, but what I look for is much more than that....(as that will come in it's own time) I look for stability of those lines..how long they've been crossed and recrossed and to whom and what that produced and so on and so on....My lines at this time, are ready for the next step...To bring back all those old lines and take them straight to the forefront. They are already there in the background, but now, with the crossing of full/brother/sisters(which is how you stamp things in) and is not for beginners, they are ready for that next step....I'm so excited about this and only those of you that have knowledge of such or can see it as plain as day(which is a true gift) or that have been there, done that, can possibly understand the tingle I'm talking about...It's like winning the lottery, or being one number off and waiting on the next, somehow knowing it'll be the right one and that you are going to win it.
I love this life with my Mastiffs and if this breed is for you, get ready for the ride of your life, because they are truly one of a kind and heads above the rest, but make sure, you have a lifetime of love and committment to give to one before even considering purchasing it, because they do not do well when bonded and then uprooted due to a move or situation that demands them to be away from their family.
